Away Just Yet!
If youāve found one of these, resist the urge to toss it.
Even if it no longer works, it can still be useful or beautiful. An old iron can become:
⢠A sturdy doorstop
⢠A bookend on a shelf
⢠A decorative piece in a kitchen or entrance hall
⢠A keepsake that tells part of your familyās story
If you want to clean it, use a dry brush and a little oil on the metal to slow down rust. Avoid heating it and pressing clothes with it, since old irons can leave marks and soot on fabric.
How to Identify It for Sure
Want to solve the mystery for good? Start with photographs and a few measurements.
Take pictures of:

- The whole iron from the side.
- The bottom plate.
- The handle, front and back.
- Any number, name, or patent mark.
- The iron next to a tape measure for scale.
