Although these stories are attention-grabbing, it is important to separate verified vehicle-security advice from claims that have not been established. A coin in a door handle does not automatically mean your car has been targeted, and there is no reliable evidence that this trick universally disables modern central locking systems.
Nevertheless, finding an unfamiliar object attached to your vehicle is a good reason to take a few sensible precautions.
